Swedish luxury brand Byredo, beloved for its perfumes and scented candles, is launching its first make-up line. Known for its special kind of fragrances, the flacons are similarly spectacular, right down to the choice of colours. For the special kind of fragrances, Byredo has long been considered the place to go. The freshly launched make-up line seems similarly spectacular, with sculptural packaging and an eccentric colour selection, they make you want more.


Since the brand's launch in 2006, the company has continued to set new records. It doesn't take long for a connoisseurship to develop around the brand and Byredo fragrances to be coveted by many. Ben Gorham is not your typical beauty entrepreneur or giant corporation, he is a career changer. The son of an Indian and a Canadian, Gorham grew up in Stockholm, Toronto and New York with his single mother, a sister and grandmother. After graduating from high school, he moved back to Europe. Initially with the plan to play basketball in college there, but enrols in Stockholm's art academy. After graduating, he accidentally meets perfumer Pierre Wulf, who provides inspiration for Byredo. Gorham decides he wants to make fragrances instead of paintings. With no previous knowledge of the industry, he turns to renowned perfumers Olivia Giacobetti and Jerome Epinette to turn his olfactory visions into reality. Already numerous magazines such as French Vogue, Elle, V Magazine, etc. have paid tribute to Gorham for his incomparable sense of style and fashion.


After the brand already sells accessories and small leather goods under the name Byredo, the range is now being expanded in the direction of beauty. An unconventional make-up line that is not simply intended to support the heteronormative image of beauty, but the exact opposite. The versatile make-up is to be used intuitively and individually, independent of the conventional gender-binary approach to make-up.


Every individual sense of beauty is to be given a face with this line. To achieve this, Gorham is working with British make-up artist Isamaya Ffrench, both of whom think outside conventional categories, making for the perfect symbiosis. Not only do they agree on beauty image, but they are both very close to nature, going on climbing trips together. Perhaps that's why the cases of the eyeshadow palette, which are very organically shaped, are reminiscent of rock formations. Gorham, who transports emotions and memories in fragrances, discovers a completely new world with Ffrench and also brings his expertise in storytelling to this project.

In addition to the 16 colour sticks, there is a selection of lipsticks, an eyeshadow palette, eyeliners, mascara and also a lip balm.Inspired by the lipsticks from the 1980s, he remembers the typical violet note of the lipsticks of that time - his mother's lipsticks also had this scent and does not ignore this in the light perfume of his own Byredo lipsticks. The mascara tube is curved like a claw, the eyeshadow is made in an organic shape in golden colour. The picturesque and organic packaging of the make-up even allows for the term design object. These products can also fit effortlessly on a shelf at home or right next to your favourite fragrances from the brand. With a focus on individuality and multi-functionality, the products are designed to inspire customers.


The coloursticks, for example, are designed to let creativity run wild in a range of colours from nude to orange and purple to green. They can be used anywhere on the face, whether as blush, lip colour or eye shadow. They are not tied to the gender of the customer or the type of application, and at Byredo's luxury level. The small 5-shade eyeshadow palettes come in four colour options, also ranging from muted tones to more intense, colourful palettes.
